Excavators

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a mini excavator and a standard excavator?

A mini excavator is compact and lightweight, making it well suited to tight residential lots, landscaping, and utility work where access is limited, while a standard excavator like our 145 or 160 Series models offers greater digging depth, reach, and breakout force for larger commercial or civil projects. Our team can help you match the right class of machine to your job when arranging your excavator rental.

Excavator rental cost depends on the size and model of machine, the length of the rental period, which attachments you need, and where the equipment is being delivered. Because these factors vary from job to job, Mountain View Equipment Rentals puts together a personalized quote for every excavator rental rather than a flat rate.

Mountain View Equipment Rentals is based in High River, Alberta, and provides excavator rentals throughout High River, Okotoks, Calgary and surrounding areas, Cochrane, and Lethbridge, along with surrounding communities across southern Alberta. If your job site is outside these areas, contact us – we regularly deliver equipment across the province, and into western Canada, including British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

Making sure your operator has the training and competency required under Alberta occupational health and safety rules is the renter’s responsibility, and some job sites may have their own documented training requirements. Mountain View Equipment Rentals does not require or verify operator licensing to rent equipment.

Consider the depth and reach you need to dig, the weight and type of material you’re moving, and how much space you have to maneuver on site, since access can rule out a larger machine on tighter lots. Share those details with our team, and we’ll recommend the best fit from our excavator rental fleet.

A mini excavator is ideal for landscaping, utility trenching, demolition in tight spaces, and residential foundation work where maneuverability matters most. A full-size excavator, like our 145 or 160 Series models, is built for larger-scale digging, grading, and material handling on commercial and civil sites where depth, reach, and lifting capacity matter more than tight access.

Always inspect the machine before use, confirm the ground is stable, be aware of underground utilities before digging, keep bystanders clear of the swing radius, and never exceed the rated lifting or digging capacity. Our team reviews these basics with every customer at pickup and is available by phone if questions come up on site.
